In her first solo exhibition Katriina Nuutinen portrays nature’s distress in beautiful, silent calls for help – Climate concern matured the designer in search of new professional meaning
Internationally awarded designer Katriina Nuutinen’s solo exhibition Vaalimisen Arvoista – Wonders of the World at KWUM-museum stops the viewer face to face with beautifully dressed, silent cries for help as Nuutinen takes a stand on climate change and invites the viewer to critically reflect on themes such as traveling, consumerism and ownership.
The exhibition consists of four delicate yet refined and detailed artworks made from glass, wood and dried flowers, created to highlight many of the precious, natural wonders that are under threat due to human activity.

The European Forest City award, 2023 for The European Forest Institute
Katriina had the honor of making the European Forest City of the Year award piece, which is awarded annually by the European Forest Institute (EFI). This year, Novi Sad in Serbia was awarded. EFI hoped that the work would be made of oak, which is an important wood material for Serbia. An oak leaf can also be seen in EFI's own logo.
She got the idea that the shape of the piece could be an acorn, which symbolizes the beginning of everything, including hope.
A possibility and a starting point for something new smolders in the seed. As if someone had heard her desire to do something meaningful with her creativity.
Let the award acorn remind its recipients of the importance and hope of nurturing forests from the day forward.
